Labor’s Censorship Plans unpopular
Kevin Rudd’s plans to implement Chinese style censorship of Australian internet access is drawing increasing criticisms from all segments of the community.
Technical experts are telling us that the plan could slow users web surfing by up to 30%, as well as fail to stop the vast majority of traffic intended to be blocked. Even the stuff that is blocked would be easily accessible with some simple knowledge of the internet.
Then there is the worry that our government will force a system on us that also filters normally secure HTTPS communications, such as when you login to your online banking. If that was to get through, then all ecommerce in Australia would stop overnight, as it would all instantly be insecure and too dangerous to risk using!
Here’s hoping sense prevails and this plan is scrapped before it goes any further.
