iPhone announced for Australia
Vodafone have announced that the iPhone will be launched by them in Australia later this year. Sheesh. Its about time. I guess the fact that Apple are screwing a lot of money out of carriers means it takes a while to get a carrier in any given country to come on board.
Speculation continues to build that Apple are about to announce a 3G iPhone. In our local market, I think they have to, I can’t see people flocking to the product as it is now, with barely better than dialup data speeds.
There are also rumours that the iPhone will be available on multiple networks down under, a move that would, as far as I can tell, be a first worldwide. In other countries, the phone is locked to a single carrier.
We’ll keep an eye out; I might consider getting one if I can use it on Optus, as our mobiles are with them. If not, I guess we’ll stick with what we’ve got.
