Windows Vista – Prettier AND Faster!
I was just doing a little reading so that the next time Chris (one of our staff here) starts moaning about Windows Vista, I might actually have a few facts to throw at him. One fact has really caught my eye; I was reading that turning on the new pretty “aero” interface, which gives you transparency and all sorts of nice looking stuff, will actually increase your systems performance!
Why? Because aero uses your graphics processor to do a lot of the tasks associated with getting that stuff on the screen, whereas the old school display options use your CPU.
I’ve tried it, and its true! Its not a huge difference, as I have a pretty good machine with a fast CPU, but I can easily see things drawing more quickly, and over the course of a work day, having everything pop up quickly when I need it will make work a lot easier!
