Apple unviels the iPhone, changes its name.

01.10.07 Posted in News by

Its a big week for Apple. Steve Jobs has decided that the company should now just be called Apple Inc (instead of Apple Computer Inc), to reflect its shift to more consumer electronics rather than just computers. The Apple iPhone

But the really big news is the Apple iPhone. Rumoured for a long time (and on this blog), it has finally been launched. It has no buttons, using a completely touch screen interface. It comes in two models, 4Gb and 8Gb, so plenty of room to store your music. It would appear Apple are planning on you replacing your phone and your iPod with one of these.

The tech savvy readers will be interested to note that the phone apparently runs Apples OSX operating system, and comes with Yahoo Mail built in. Apple are pitching this phone squarely at the road warrior, hoping that it will be functional enough to replace existing personal organisers, and cool enough for people to want to.

Personally, I wish I hadn’t lashed out on the Motorola Krzr. I think these iPhones look way too cool not to own one!

The full specs along with some nice close up pics are on Apple’s website: http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html

Engadget have a heap of photos of the new phone: http://www.engadget.com/photos/first-iphone-pics/

    This looks like a great product… pity I can’t afford it. :-)
